The Autumn/Winter Edit 2015
Remember last week when I said "Expect to see a lot more Autumnal posts in the future"? Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the first of many. Once again I am extremely late the to the party and doing my Autumn/Winter edit a good few weeks after many other bloggers. Better late than never, I suppose. If you're not sure what this is, my Autumn/Winter edit is 5 things I have chosen to that transition your style to suit the colder weather. This includes clothes, makeup and fragrance. Obviously, you don't have to go along with any of my suggestions, this is just what I like to do to update my look for this time of year. Hope you enjoy!
1. The High-Neck Top
Everyone went crazy for high-neck tops in 2014, and they're back with vengeance again this year. Personally, I really like them. I'm not a huge fan of great big turtle necks just because I'm quite petite and they drown me a little bit, but high-neck tops add quite a sophisticated edge to any look. I have two: one black one from New Look with three-quarter-length sleeves that looks gorgeous tucked into a-line skirts, and one grey marl cropped one from River Island that has long sleeves and looks equally as gorgeous with high-waisted jeans and a floaty scarf. I feel very cosy and warm when I wear either of them, so absolutely perfect for this time of year.
2. The Checked EVERYTHING
Tartan is one of my favourite patterns all year round, but it really comes into its own during cooler months. Checked clothes usually include a lot of navy, red and burgundy - i.e. some of my favourite colours - so look lovely and festive. My tartan wardrobe consists of the obligatory checked shirt and a warm, snuggly scarf. Checked shirts, like this one from New Look, are very versatile in that they can be worn as a light jacket for any block coloured top, on their own, or have their collar peeping out of a chunky-knit jumper. All of this makes them great for layering. The scarf goes so nicely with any black, white or navy coat and makes for a pretty pop of autumnal colour. This one was from Miss Selfridge. It's also ginormous so can double as a picnic blanket if you so wish.
3. The 'Darker Nude' Lip
Many beauty bloggers would now insert a whole paragraph about how ideal red and berry-toned lipstick is for autumn/winter. But, being my usual awkward self, have chosen not to do this. I know that quite a few people, including myself, wouldn't feel comfortable wearing bold colours on our lips everyday. I do think bold lips are gorgeous, but personally, I wouldn't want to wear them all the time and save my red lipsticks for occasions. Lips can still be autumnal even if they're not berry-toned. Instead, I've chosen lipsticks that are darker nudes. The one on the left is the Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick in the shade 08. This is a fairly classic nude colour but has a hint of dusty rose. Still, it's quite a subtle yet beautiful colour and I adore the whole Kate Moss collection from Rimmel. Next to that is the Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in the shade Rosewood. This would be the perfect nude lipstick for darker skin tones, but on paler skin like my own, it's a stunning raspberry/rose colour. It can be a little dramatic if you draw it all over your lips like your would do normal lipsticks, especially on pale skin, so I tend to dot it randomly on my lips then blend it in with my finger for the most natural look. Both of these lipsticks are from Boots, so affordable and accessible, and generally really nice formulas.
4. The Shimmery Nail Polish
Nail polishes that have a touch of shimmer to them make me feel very festive, especially when they're included in darker colours. My favourite one is Midnight Sparkles by Tanya Burr, which is an aubergine-but-almost-black colour. This shade isn't in her new collection, but you might be able to grab one still in Superdrug or on feelunique.com for a reduced price. There are similar colours out there, but if you can still get your hands on this one, I definitely recommend you do. The formula is incredible, meaning that in maximum two coats its completely opaque, and the shine on your nails is amazing - the added sparkle makes all the difference! I really like this nail polish, along with all the other ones Tanya has released that I have tried. I might just add though you may need to be a bit more experienced in painting your nails as this colour is quite dark, so can go everywhere!
5. The Woody Fragrance
Last but not least is the woody fragrance, my favourite part of the whole edit. I have chosen the Jimmy Choo Eau du Parfum. This is the original fragrance in the Jimmy Choo range. The scent is so unique; when it first hits you, it does smell woody and warm, but the longer you wear it, the more it reveals a sort of fruity, vanilla scent. The ingredients are said to include tiger orchid, which provides the exotic yet warm smell, and a base of toffee, which is the sweet, vanilla-y note. The scent is quite strong yet it still manages to be very feminine and pretty. Because of it's warmth, this is perfect for autumn/winter. I'll be wearing this all throughout the colder months. For a designer fragrance, its very reasonably priced; the 60ml bottle is £26.74 on Amazon.co.uk. It would make the perfect Christmas gift for any lady.
There you have it - my Autumn/Winter edit for 2015! Hope you enjoyed it and have taken some inspiration.
Until next time,
From,
Eleanor
