September Favourites

Expect me to say this every month, but I can't believe it's October. It's crazy. This year has gone so so so quickly and I don't quite understand. But I guess I can't complain that much, because the quicker the months go, the quicker Christmas comes around. Yes I am already starting to think about it. I started in July. Before we get too ahead of ourselves, its time to recap September and discuss my monthly favourites with you lovely lot.

My first favourite is BBC Radio One's Live Lounge. Every year I look forward to their 'Live Lounge Month', which is when every day in September, an artist or band plays a set at Radio One consisting of their own song and a mystery cover. Not only does it give a really stripped-back approach to all the music you know and love,  but it gives you an insight into the artist's taste in music as well as their creativity in remixing a song to make it truly their own. My favourites are often the ones where you can only tell the song is a cover because of the lyrics, not what it sounds like. This year, I think my favourite was Disclosure featuring Sam Smith, who did their song Omen and a cover of Drake's Hotline Bling. I'm not usually into Discolsure's music, but I think their collabs with Sam Smith are incredible because Sam's music is quite different to the songs Disclosure produce, but he still has a perfect voice for the songs they do together. I also really liked the sets from Nothing But Thieves, Gabrielle Aplin and James Bay. No surprises there.

Onto more music, I love love love Ellie Goulding's new single On My Mind. Even though it's your conventional modern pop song, there's something about Ellie's unique voice that just makes it all the better. I'm such a huge fan of Ellie and I can't tell you how excited I am for her album (that's right, a review is on the way), and even though I hope she does what she has done on her previous two albums which is make each song different, I will be a very happy girl if they are up to this standard. The song has catchy lyrics and structure paired with an amazing bass-y section after each chorus. I think it's my favourite pop song of the year.

Moving away from music and onto makeup. I adore MAC cosmetics but my new favourite product of theirs, that I wore all throughout September, is their Face and Body Foundation. You may recognise this from my Big Birthday Haul, linked here if you haven't read it yet. I'm not usually a foundation lover - I often pick up a BB Cream or Tinted Mouisturiser instead - because it feels quite heavy on my skin. But this foundation is so light, both in coverage and the way it feels on the skin, that you can hardly feel it there but you can see a difference when you look in the mirror. I've been applying it using a EcoTools Finishing Brush (clearly not finishing anything) and gives a lovely, healthy radiance to your skin.  It's also pretty moisturising too. It won't be for everyone since it has such a light coverage, but it is definitely buildable. However, because it is MAC, there is a heftier price tag. But it is seriously the best foundation I've ever tried and I'm dreading the day I run out.

Anyone that knows me knows I'm not an avid movie-watcher. Don't hate me, but I've never seen Harry Potter. Or the Lion King. I'm sorry. This year, I've tried to get into films a bit more. One of the best ones I've seen this year I watched in September and that was Now You See Me. It's not a shocker I'm really late to the party with this film but I watched the trailer after someone recommended it to me and not long after it ended up again in my Big Birthday Haul. It's such a great film. Firstly, it has brilliant actors including Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman and Dave Franco, as well as a fantastic, suspenseful story line and awesome stunts and graphics. It follows the story of the FBI and Interpol detectives trying to work out how a group of four illusionists manage to pull of bank heists in their performances whilst the magicians try to figure out who really brought them together. It's quite difficult to explain - you'll just have to watch it! I loved it and seriously recommend it if you like crime films that aren't too scary and enjoy playing detective.

Lastly is a tea. I love tea. My mum's work colleague brought in a Cafe Nero Chai Latte Spiced into the staff room and mum explained how I would love it because it smelt like Christmas in a jar. The colleague very kindly brought us a jar and wow. Firstly, it smells like Cinnamon Grahams. Secondly, it tastes so delicious and spicy and Christmassy and yummy. Mum and I agreed that it probably won't replace our regular English Breakfast - it's a bit more of an indulgent tea - so instead we are going to have Chai Fridays, or Chaidays if you will. But if you like spicy and all-things-Christmas-even-though-it's-October, find this tea and love it.

That's my September Favourites done and dusted! Hope you enjoyed it! Have a great October - I'll try and be a bit more active on here this month.

See you soon-ish.

From,
Eleanor
