Spencer Hastings Inspired Outfit & ASOS First Impressions

ASOS is one of those websites where I refresh the 'New In' page about 10 times a day and love almost everything I see, but have never brought anything from. Before going on holiday, I spotted two items that I really liked and thought would be perfect for sixth form. I ordered them the day I got back. When they arrived, I realised they'd make a great Spencer Hastings inspired outfit. If you didn't already know, Spencer Hastings is one of the main characters in Pretty Little Liars, i.e. my favourite TV show ever ever ever, and is played by the stunning Troian Bellisario. Her style is preppy and smart but has cute and girly additions to make her outfits suitable for everyday wear.

*I'd just like to point out that this isn't an outfit I've seen Spencer wear, it's purely something I've come up with that I've adapted from her look*

ASOS - £20

The first thing I ordered from ASOS is a plain white sleeveless shirt. This shirt might be the smartest one I own, so perfect for Spencer.  It's very simple with panels at the shoulders and quite a large collar. It has plain white buttons from the collar to the bottom of the shirt. The buttons are also fairly close to each other so you can wear the shirt fully buttoned up or leave one or two undone without it being too revealing. To make it ideal for Spencer's look, I've left the the first button undone so it still looks smart but more causal for everyday. This shirt was £20. To me, that's pretty good value, since I can imagine high street stores marketing similar things at a higher price and the same quality.

ASOS - £22
Next is my favourite part of the outfit. Again, its from ASOS. It is this light-weight black jumper with grey stars as elbow pads. It's my favourite fashion item I've brought in a while. It isn't too thick so is perfect for evenings when it's a bit chillier but you don't want to put a coat on. Also, it's just so wearable - it can be worn day-to-day with a simple pair of jeans, or for something a bit more fancy, tucked into an a-line skirt. It's black too, so goes with everything.  For Spencer's outfit, I've put this over the shirt with the collar poking over the neckline and the bottom visible from the end of the jumper. With the collar not tight around your neck and the shirt hanging loosely underneath, a casual twist is given to an otherwise preppy outfit. The adorable star elbow pads give a more casual and cute addition to the outfit, making it perfect for Spencer. This jumper was £22, and I know I'll get a lot of wear out of it.

Topshop Leigh Jeans
- £38

On the bottom half, I've chosen my beloved Topshop Leigh Jeans. You may recognise these from my birthday haul, which you can read about here. These jeans are sooooo comfy and will last you a very long time. I like to turn up the end of the jeans, which is something I've seen Spencer do too. It makes the outfit more relaxed. Jeans make this look a lot more casual and Spencer wears them often. I think the lighter colour ties the dark jumper and the white shirt nicely together as well. I've said before how much I rate Topshop jeans, but I'm going to say it again; if you need jeans and have a decent budget, go to Topshop! These were £38, and I love them a lot.

Carvela Marlow Loafers - £39

Spencer doesn't wear a lot of heels, but her shoes are still smart. For this reason, I've chosen these loafers. These are the Marlow loafers from Carvela at Kurt Geiger. I love the simplicity of these shoes, but at the same time they'd be a great alternative for heels at any event. They're black with a brass twist on the front. Kurt Geiger shoes aren't the cheapest option, although these are currently reduced in the sale at £39, but if you wear them wisely, they'll last a long time. Spencer also wears a lot of brogues too which can be found in many high street stores. Turning the ends of the jeans upwards shows off the shoes, which I really like because these are my favourite pair, and Spencer wears a lot of gorgeous shoes which need to be appreciated.

This is the finished outfit! I really like it. I think this outfit would be ideal for sixth form, work, or any other occasion when you want to wear a smart/casual outfit. The jumper makes it a good outfit to wear in the colder months, but in spring and summer you could just wear it as the shirt and jeans. I hope I made it look Spencer Hastings-esque. I'm a big fan of her, and all of the PLL girls', outfits - each one is individual and quirky but so stylish. I'd like to do more inspired outfits in the future.

I will definitely visit ASOS for clothes again. I had heard that the quality of their clothes could be a bit hit-and-miss, but mine feel great. I think the prices of my clothes and other clothes by their own brand on the site are reasonable. I like the fact that they have a range of brands at different prices, so there is literally something for everyone. Brands like Boohoo and ASOS's own are ones I would suggest looking at if you have a tighter budget, but there are also the more expensive like Ted Baker and Forever Unique. Because of their amount of brands, there are a huge range of absolutely everything. If you want it, it's likely they have it. They also have a beauty section with products from a variety of companies, ranging from drugstore names like Rimmel, to the more premium ones like Nars. The returns policy is fantastic as is their postage and packaging prices - standard delivery is free if you're order is over £20; if you're anything like me, £20 is easy to exceed. I ordered my clothes on a Sunday with standard delivery and it arrived on the Wednesday. To me, that's pretty good. Overall, I'm impressed with ASOS, and I'm sure it won't be long before I make my next purchase.

Until next time, friends.

From,
Eleanor
