My Current Skincare Routine
Exciting news, everyone: I have a new thing. Skincare! As someone who is in love with makeup, you'd probably think skincare is another obsession of mine - but no. This is mostly down to the fact I spend all my money on products that make my skin grotty, instead of what clears it up. But as we hurtle into the summer months, my skin has been crying out for some attention. I have normal to dry skin, but more the latter when it comes into contact with the sun, and especially in the summertime I'm always after a little bit more of a glow. So I decided it was high time to kick-start my skincare routine again and show my squishy freckled face some lurveee.
At the moment, I'm using my Garnier Micellar Water to remove makeup. I've been loyal to this product for absolutely ages, but I'm fancying a change since it doesn't remove my Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara all that well, and I have been thinking about the Simple Moisturising Facial Wash ever since I nicked it off my mum's bathroom shelf the other day. This face wash made my skin feel so soft and supple, and for £1.50, you can't go wrong. That being said, one thing that is firmly staying in my routine is my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. This is a holy grail product for so many people and has been raved about in the beauty community for years. I apply one-to-two pumps of this creamy cleanser all over my skin, then dampen a flannel or muslin cloth with hot water, before rinsing it out slightly and wiping the cleanser away. No other cleanser has made my skin feel quite so smooth after using it, and it smells wonderful too.
Moving onto more Liz Earle products, probably my favourite product in my whole routine is the Instant Boost Skin Tonic. This is the toner I use in the morning, as it leaves me so glowy I may as well be auditioning for the part of Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast. After cleansing, I pop this onto a cotton pad, swipe it all over my skin and BAM! I look like a disco ball. My evening - or even throughout the day - toner option is the Lush Eau Roma Water. I mentioned this in a Lush Favourites post I did last year after I had just bought it, and I still love it. I spritz this all over the face, and it helps balance the colouring while also reducing the dryness thanks to its hydrating lavender water. Eau Roma Water is probably the closest thing you'll get to a daily aromatherapy session, as it smells divine and has rose water in it, which is full of calming qualities. I recommend sticking this bad boy in the fridge, so whenever you grab for it, it's lovely and cooling.
Moisturiser time, and for this we call upon one of my more recent purchases. As I said earlier, I have normal to dry skin, so I needed something that wasn't too heavy but also was strong enough to tackle my pesky little dry patches. Enter Weleda's Skin Food Light. This product is a drink for your skin. Bursting with beautiful, natural ingredients, Skin Food Light provides an instant hit of hydration, and can be used anywhere around your bod, too. A little goes a long way with this product because it is quite intense, but if you do have extremely dry skin, the original Skin Food should sort that right out. I use this both day and night, but in the mornings I also like to mix in a touch of the B. Glowing Booster. A few drops of this pocket-rocket ensures beautifully illuminated skin, and I would highly recommend this product if you want to rejuvenate a dull complexion. And who doesn't want glowy, healthy-looking skin for summer, right?
Lastly, we come to eye cream. I'm not fussy when it comes to eye cream - I just want something that makes me look less like a stressed-out student that needs to top up on her H2O. There are loads of great eye cream options out there that will all do pretty much the same thing. The one I'm using at the moment comes courtesy of The Body Shop, and it's their Vitamin E Eyes Cube. This is an odd little thing, but I do much prefer the stick-style/roller ball eye products underneath my eyes as I find them more cooling and calming - this, together with the Eau Roma Water, is a match made in heaven after a long, tiresome day. The applicator for this one is quite big, but don't let that put you off - it isn't harsh in the slightest. Other than that, it's brightening and hydrating, and the effects kick in instantaneously. This is one I apply in both the mornings and evenings, and is the perfect way to round off my skincare routine. That being said, this teeny-weeny tube does retail for £9.50, which does seem a bit extortionate, but if you can get it on 3-for-2 or with a student discount, it's definitely worth a looksey.
While my skincare routine is perhaps quite minimal to some, it's all I need to give my skin that extra boost, and I'm so in love with each and every product in this list. Let's see how long I - a sleepy gal addicted to my bed - can keep up a routine like this in the morning and evenings...
