July Beauty Discoveries

So if you read my last post (it was a Lush Favourites piece, I'll link it here if you want a peruse) you may recall I said I spend a lot more money on beauty products but don't look after my skin properly. Well, the former has definitely proved to be true this month. And I don't even know why! In this heat, the last thing I want to be doing is spending my morning smothering myself in makeup only for it to be melting off my face in an hour's time. To be honest though, I have discovered some real gems this month that have made me look forward to my makeup routine again, even if it doesn't stick around all that long. My bank account may not love these products, but I certainly do, so here's the lowdown on my July beauty discoveries.

Let's kick things off with my first purchase - the e.l.f cream eyeliner. I actually bought this in June, but it definitely took me a couple of weeks to appreciate it. As a life-long devotee to liquid liner pens (R.I.P Topshop Magic Liner, gone too soon </3), it took a good while to get used to applying liner in such a different way - some mornings it would take me around forty minutes to get my wings on point. Now that I've come to "perfect" it a little more (certainly not the best at it still lol), I actually really love using it. I dip an angled brush into the pot, draw on my wings first, and then draw from the tip of the wing to the lash line for bold wings that could fly you away from all your problems. I highly rate e.l.f as a cheap-as-chips, cruelty free brand, so it's no surprise I've learned to love the cream eyeliner.

This mascara has been around for ages and everyone worships it, but it's only when I decided that I should try a waterproof mascara since I keep sweating mine off (lovely) that I bit the bullet and tried it for myself. And yep, completely get the hype. Especially with eyelash curlers, this mascara gives the fullest, most voluminous, "hello-I've-arrived" lashes I've ever had. I'll be honest though, it has it's faults; I don't know whether it's the way I apply mascara that does it, but so many mascaras seems to print onto my lids, and this one is no exception. And it's such a pain the backside to remove, being waterproof and all. For those reasons it might not be my favourite mascara ever - it's actually on par with the Revlon Dramatic Definition mascara, which is a fraction of the price (although not cruelty free, unfortunately) - but it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the market for a waterproof mascara that gives you serious lashes. Plus check out the super cute packaging.

My girl Rachel pulled through with another fab beauty gift for my birthday this year in the form of the Morphe Happy Hour eye shadow palette. Definitely my favourite product out of this selection, this palette screams summer, with beautiful peaches, pinks, bronzes and browns in a mixture of shimmery and matte finishes. The shadows themselves are lovely and buttery, and also incredibly pigmented, making a flawless eye shadow look very easy to do, even for someone as incompetent with eye shadow as me. I think my favourite colour is Bubbly, which is a dark, mauve-y pink shimmer, but Hot Spot - a pretty gold/pink duo-chrome type shade - is also stunning, as is the muted matte hot pink Snap. This is just my perfect summery, 'let's look good and feel confident' palette, so thanks Rachel, you've cracked it again.

So after falling head over heels in love with the palette, I had a little browse of the Morphe department on Beauty Bay (if you're quick you might be able to get some awesome deals on Morphe over at Beauty Bay, the brand is leaving the website soon and they have some amazing discounts). I'd been after a decent set of eye shadow brushes for a while, and getting the gorgeous new palette only furthered my need for some. That's when I stumbled upon a travel set from Morphe; 12 brushes for eyes and face, all gorgeously soft and really all you'll ever need when it comes to makeup application. They come in this cute black and white case too, making them super easy to travel with. I can't wait to use these more - hopefully with these, I'll be able to try out some more creative eye shadow looks.

I'm pretty happy with what I've managed to track down this month in the beauty world, and I think I've definitely found some new staples in my makeup routine. Keep your eyes peeled for a post in the not-too-distant future where all these wonderful things are used!

From,
Eleanor
