Subtly Colourful SS18 Makeup

It feels a bit weird writing this post while tucked under my duvet, sipping on piping hot tea with the radiator on full blast and the view from my window blanketed in snow. The snow is officially uninvited now; it was fun for a while, but now I just want to dance around in floaty skirts a drink my Costa fruit coolers without being desperately cold. So to get into that SS18 spirit, here's a colourful makeup look for you to try out if you've still got the winter blues like me...well, when I say colourful, it's just more colourful than I'm used to. I hate straying from my comfort zone in both makeup and clothes, but I'm trying my best not to just wear black, white and grey t-shirts and black liner and MAC Velvet Teddy on my face this year. Maybe I'll do a post about more colourful clothes for someone who fears colour, who knows...anyway, on with the makeup.

complexion I feel like SS18 makeup has always been summed up by fresh-faced, dewy-looking skin. So after slathering on a tonne of moisturiser, I actually put some foundation on my face. This never happens, just because I'm not foundation's biggest fan, but MAC's Face and Body is undeniably fabulous, especially for giving you that extra bit of glow. It's a very sheer, watery foundation that just gives a natural but pretty finish to the skin. I use the shade C1. Since this is such a light coverage foundation, concealer and corrector is still very much needed in my case. As always, I used the NYX Colour Correcting Palette, and took the peachy toned colour under my eyes, and the lighter concealer shade to cover up any imperfections.

brows & eyes I've been having a real moment for eyebrow pencils recently, having been a big advocate for eye-shadow-on-an-angled-brush for so long. The one I'm completely head over heels for at the moment is the Urban Decay Brow Beater in Dark. The nib is so tiny that it's really easy to create a lovely defined and shaped brow super quickly. Also big up the spoolie on the end, Urban Decay heard my cries and are doing brows right. When it comes to eyes, it couldn't be simpler. For a summery pop of colour, I took the Barry M Kohl Pencil in Royal Blue on my waterline, and smudged it quite messily into my lashline and under my eyes too to create more of a smokey effect. And then once I got it to the intensity that I liked it, I used my Topshop Magic Liner to draw the thinnest line at my lashes just to add a little definition, curled my lashes and smothered on the world's most unsung mascara, Revlon Dramatic Definition. I love this stuff. I rate it so much more than some of my higher end mascaras; it does a beautiful job at separating, defining and thickening lashes, and holds a curl wonderfully. Lastly, I just pressed some of the Sleek Royal Gold highlight from the Precious Metals palette into the inner corners of my eyes for a glittery boost, and also added the shade Platinum as a browbone highlight.

cheeks A product I've been obsessed with since I picked it up for my cruelty-free edit earlier this year (which you can have a cheeky peruse of here) is the Elf Blush and Bronzing Duo in St Lucia. They are the most gorgeous powders; they're very subtle but extremely pretty. I used the bronzer very lightly to contour my non-existent cheekbones before sweeping it over my cheeks, forehead and temples, then added the blush shade to the apples off my cheeks and pulling it out to the higher points of my face. The blush is also the ideal colour for spring; it's a natural flush shade, so just looks nice and youthful. Something that is completely new and revolutionary to me also are highlighting sticks. What genius inventions, right? They're so easy to use! I have the Revlon PhotoReady Instafix one in Gold Light, and just simply draw it onto my cheekbones and down my nose, before just blending it out with my fingers. And voila.

lips I've sung my praises for a lot of products in this post (I'm just generally adoring all my makeup at the moment), but this new addition to my makeup bag is probably the best thing on my face here. The Elf Tinted Lip Oil in Coral Kiss. Oh man, oh man. Never have my lips been in such good condition. It's a glossy formula, but doesn't feel sticky at all - it't just incredibly softening and mositurising, and the colour is the perfect shade for a little extra something something for spring/summer. I'm not a gloss person at all - in fact, I don't know if I've ever even owned a lipgloss that I've really worn before - but I can't see myself without this little beauty for a while.

So yeah, spring, babe, if you wanna hurry up so I can wear this makeup look with mini dresses and white converse, that would be great.

Eleanor
