Smokey Eyes & Vampy Lips
When uni first started, my friend Emma and I would spend a lot of our free Fridays mooching around the city and spending far too much money. That's died down a bit now, but yesterday we went into Primark to pick up a new hairbrush, only to find ourselves in Boots lusting over all the makeup. I didn't go too crazy, but one thing I did fall in love with was the look of a liquid lipstick from Sleek. Sleek is one of my favourite brands on the high street - I love their eye shadow palettes and swear by their highlighters - so I was dying to try this lippy out. Justifying yet another purchase with oh it's fine I can use it for a blog post, here we are, ladies and gents, with a lil smokey eye and vampy lip look for you today.
complexion.
So in my last makeup post (linked here if you want a peek) I managed to stay away from the NYX Colour Corrector and Concealer palette, but I knew it wouldn't be long before I went back after it. It's the perfect, compact product for anyone who isn't a fan of foundation. I used the peach tone under my eyes and the lighter concealer shade around my chin and nose. I did still go in with the MAC Mineralize Concealer under my eyes after brushing away the fallout from the eye shadow with a powder brush just for some extra brightening - when I wear a dark lip I feel like I look a bit dead, so I do whatever I can to put some life back into my complexion.
eyes.
I'm not going to bother showing you my eyebrow routine; if you wanna see it, it's on the post linked in the complexion paragraph. So going straight in the with eyes, I used the Smashbox Photo Op Eye Shadow Trio in Screenshot predominantly. I patted the shade Nectar all over my eyes as a neutral base, then, using a dense angled brush, messily drew Roast at the lash line and adding a small wing. I absolutely love this colour - it's a deep, chocolately brown with gold flecks running through it. I then blended it out to make it a little smokier, and repeated this about four times. I also took a matte black eye shadow much more precisely to the lash line, and blended Roast under my eyes too. On my waterline, I took the Rimmel Kohl Pencil in Jet Black. As a little inner corner highlight, I used a tiny amount of the MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter in Iridescent Gold, aka my favourite powder highlighter ever. After curling my lashes, I put a tonne of the Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash mascara, just because that stuff is fab-u-lous.
cheeks.
In true Ellie spirit, I put on a load of the Benefit Hoola Bronzer all over my cheeks, temples, forehead and neck to warm up my skin. This is the only bronzer I use - it's just perfect. Then way down on the other end of the drugstore-to-premium spectrum we have Natural Collection. I only have ever owned one thing from Natural Collection, and I actually really like it. It's the Powder Blush in Rosey Glow, and gives a lovely pink-y warmth to the skin. The packaging is the worst, but the product is brilliant, and for just £1.99, you can't really go wrong. Finishing off the skin, I popped a fair bit of the MUA highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones, down my nose and on my cupid's bow - just enough so that I look like a golden disco ball.
lips.
Lastly, and most excitingly, we have lips. My new lipstick obsession is the Sleek Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream in Vino Tinto. To be honest, it's quite flakey, and - maybe it's because I only just hopped onto the liquid lipstick band wagon - I find it quite difficult to apply neatly, but the colour...ugh, the colour. It's the most beautiful, dark burgundy shade that if I was confident enough, I would be rocking every single day of Autumn and Winter. It's so so gorgeous, and definitely £4.99 well spent.
So, two posts, two very different makeup looks. I love them both a whole lot. Hope you did too!
Don't worry - if makeup isn't your thing, I've got something different in the pipeline for you in the next post ;)
From,
Eleanor
