A Study In Pink
When it comes to makeup and clothes, for me, neutral tones are where its at. I would say probably a good 75% of my wardrobe is black, grey or white - and I am totally okay with that. However, an SS17 trend I've been seeing creeping into stores is a predominance of pretty pinks. Especially when it comes to the pale and pastel shades, this trend has been something I've become more and more in to, so here are some ways to subtly inject some pink into your looks, whilst keeping them understated and cute:)
There are so many ways you can add a little pop of pink to your makeup. For eye shadow, a go-to natural shade of mine has to be Silk Teddy from the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette: a gorgeous champagne-pink shimmer that adds the right amount of something-something for an everyday face. In a similar vein, the Sleek MakeUp Precious Metals Highlighting Palette has been one of my favourite discoveries of the year so far, the shades Renaissance Gold giving a rose gold glow, and Royal Gold adding intense pink glitter to your cheekbones.
My ideal pretty pink blush is the Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in Lovely Pink. It's a very subtle shade, popping a little natural flush to the cheeks, while the gold flecks marbled into the pink give a fresh glow.
It's so easy to pick up a pink lipstick from plenty of brands, but my all-time favourite has to be the Urban Decay Vice Comfort Matte Lipstick in Criminal. I think I love it so much for its versatility: dotted over the lips, its a great nude colour, whilst drawn fully on makes it a bolder, comfortable pink.
Nails are where I feel most confident wearing brighter pink tones. My defining summer shade last year was definitely Barry M Sunset Nail Polish in Peach for the Stars - as the name would suggest, it's quite a peachy-toned pink, but is beautifully bright and very long lasting, particularly when paired with the Sunset topcoat. Alternatively, for a more quiet colour, the Barry M Coconut Infusion Nail Polish in Surfboard, which not only gives a lovely neutral pink wash of colour, but also helps protect your nails too.
In terms of outfits, I'm completely and utterly digging these jeans from Miss Selfridge. They've become a huge staple in my wardrobe; over the winter, I've been pairing them mostly with grey and black tops or thin jumpers. However, it's almost time to wack out the tees, and this stone coloured one from Boohoo goes perfectly with the pink embroidered flowers on the jeans. It has pretty minimal detail in the straps while still being interesting and not clashing with jeans' pattern. The quality of the top is also fantastic, and for £10, its a no-brainer really. These trainers, from Pull and Bear, are unfortunately no longer available, but any pink trainers (like these) will go equally as well. They keep the outfit casual, but still pair nicely with it's cutesy vibe.
For a more formal look, clearly New Look is the place to go, because - completely unintentionally - all of these items are from there! Mesh tops are something I've seen everywhere recently, and this one, embroidered with big pink roses, caught my attention. It's modern and sophisticated and I absolutely love it. The outfit is kept simple with black high-waisted skinny jeans, and given a bit more of a formal edge with these stone coloured heels (which are not available any more, but these are just as nice). I wore this out over the weekend and I'm absolutely in love with every piece of it.
So there are three ways to give a little touch of pink to you SS17 wardrobe and makeup look. I like to keep things fairly understated, and I think these pops of pink are subtle but still pretty and in-keeping with trend. I love them all!
From,
Eleanor
