My MAC Lipsticks
Ever since I've been building up my little makeup collection, MAC is a brand I find myself going back to again and again, especially for their lipsticks. There's something quite special about a MAC lipstick; from the delicious scent, to the formula, to the satisfying 'click' when you pop the lid back on. Whenever I'm looking to treat myself, I'll be running to a MAC lipstick counter. They aren't the cheapest on the market, which is why a.) I only have four and b.) some are kind of similar colours, ones which I know I'll get my money's worth from. So if your a MAC lipstick lover like myself, or your thinking of starting a collection and don't know what to buy first, or simply just nosy, enjoy my lippies!
Pure Zen was my first ever MAC Lipstick, and my first high-end makeup product (if you class MAC as high-end, idk). This is such an ideal throw-on nude shade for me. It has a gorgeous warm peachy hue to it, and as it is a cremesheen finish, it looks very natural and sheeny on the lips. The cremesheen finish is MAC's most moisturising formula, so is a good one to keep in your handbag for the whole day for a boost of moisture and extra tint. It is also quite sheer, but can be built up as much as you want. I love this one for any kind of natural look or to balance out heavy eye makeup. Out of all of these, this is the one I'd recommend most if you're just starting out in makeup and don't want anything too bold.
Potentially my favourite in my collection, Velvet Teddy is a true cult classic. It has a brown-y base but also has some mauve-y, pink-y hues injected into it too. It's, again, a fairly natural nude shade but can be layered on as a statement matte lip. The matte formulas from MAC are my favourite matte formulas from any brand, because in comparison they are lovely and creamy and easy to apply, while staying on for a pretty long time. I've been using this lipstick constantly for the longest time just by dabbing it into my lips for a neutral everyday colour - I love love love it.
Mehr is fairly similar to Velvet Teddy in that it has a brown-y base, although Mehr's selling point is the warm berry-pink tones it has. It has the same matte formula to Velvet Teddy, so again is a dream to put on and wears nicely throughout the day. This is my go-to everyday autumn shade, and pairs wonderfully with brown smokey eyes, or equally a wash of champagne-y shimmer. If your looking for a relaxed shade that isn't quite as brown or as neutral as Velvet Teddy, Mehr is your gal.
Lastly we come to my most recent purchase, Captive. This is my most daring shade, although the picture of me wearing it doesn't really do the deep plum colour it has in reality justice. The swatch on my wrist shows it more accurately I think. Though it is quite dark, the slight pink hue it has does give it a feminine, pretty edge, and would be a stunning autumn-to-winter choice. Captive has a satin finish, which means its not completely matte, but also doesn't have the frosty look Pure Zen does. It also isn't as thick as the matte lipsticks, meaning its quicker to apply and touch up if you need to. I haven't been with Captive for as long as my other babies, but I already know we're going to have a very happy life together.
