My Favourite Makeup Look Ever?

I'm really excited about doing this post. I'm not quite sure why. I've just been writing a lot of things for uni recently, and I've sort of jumped back into the flow of doing posts and re-realised my enthusiasm for writing.  Orrrrr it could be the fact that I'm absolutely in love with the makeup look coming up for you in just a sec. For someone that isn't too confident with eye shadow and can take between two minutes and two hours on their winged liner, I was pretty darn happy with myself after giving this double flick look a go. I'm no makeup artist, but I absolutely adore this look, so if you're looking for something kinda easy but still looks like you put some effort in, look no further.

complexion.

Staring with the basics, ya'll already know the drill - I'm not a fan of foundation. It feels too heavy on my skin. I'm definitely much more of a tinted moisturiser kinda gal, and my favourite is the Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done. I just used my fingers to blend this in like I would a normal moisturiser. For concealer, though I've been loving my NYX Colour Correcting Palette recently, for this look I reverted back to my good ol' MAC Mineralize Concealer - mostly because I used this look for Halloween (more on that later) and using a brightening peach-toned corrector would kind of defeat the object when you're trying to look dead. After contour, which is coming up soon, I used the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder. An oldie but a goodie. I use it most when I've actually put some coverage on my face as it's a cheap and cheerful product that actually does what it says on the tin.

brows and eyes.

It'll come to no shock to anyone that's read any of my past makeup posts that I filled in my brows using the shade Sexpresso from the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette. It's just the perfect match, and when you have brows as wild as mine, once you've found something you like - you stick with it. I did also set them in place with the Benefit Gimme Brow, but I'm not really sure what difference it makes anymore; maybe mine's just too old. Now for the exciting bit - eye shadow and liner. And yes, look who's back - sorry guys, I'm just addicted to the NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals. It has every colour I could ever want. For a base shade, I used the purple/grey (the furthest shade left on the second row) and patted that all over the lid. I then added the furthest colour right on the bottom row - a grey, halfway in between light and dark - as a transition shade, and then the deep purple (second in on the third row) as my crease and under-eye shade, building that up quite a lot until it got quite dramatic. I also added this shade - along with the shimmery dark purple that starts the bottom row - to the outer corners of my eye, and the shimmery light purple (three in on the second row) to the inner corners to open up the eyes. I was never too precise with the eye shadow - I prefer it looking a bit messy (and I'm not just saying that because with how incompetent I am with eye shadow).

When it comes to eye liner, my go-to is the Topshop Magic Liner in Engraved. I just find it a really easy product to work with, which is particularly fab when you're going for something a little more daring like this double flick. I mapped out where the flicks would go first by lightly drawing two lines with the very tip of the nib, then gradually built them both up until they were equal. I connected the lash line with the top line. And lastly, for mascara, after curling my lashes, I put on heaps of the Benefit They're Real Mascara. Still love the stuff.

cheeks.

I never really go too crazy when it comes to cheeks. Sometimes I'll put on a smattering of bronzer, but for this look I simply contoured with the shade Nudie from the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette. I also took this colour underneath my jawline too, just to add a touch of definition. To highlight, I wacked a tonne of the shade Platinum from the Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette. I hardly ever use this shade as an all-over-the-face illuminator, but, especially for Halloween, I thought it looked really pretty. This went on the tops of my cheekbones, my brow bone, down the bridge of my nose and on my cupid's bow.

lips.

For lips, I kept things super simple. I just coated them in what is potentially my all-time favourite lipstick: MAC Velvet Teddy. You can read my ravings about it even more in a post I did yonks ago about my MAC Lipstick mini collection, and it still remains to be the lipstick I reach for pretty much every single day. The formula is fab, the colour payoff is brilliant, and it matches the eyes perfectly. If you're looking for a simple but effective matte lipstick, head down to your local MAC store.

So they're you go people - is this my favourite makeup look ever? Very possibly. As I said earlier, this is the look I used for Halloween. I'm hopefully going out on actual Halloween night too and plan on wearing it then, but I was also out yesterday (my sleep pattern hates me) and gave it a road test. I absolutely loved the way it looked and can't wait to slap it all on my face again tomorrow night. Also, massive s/o to my new friend Emma who did the fx on my neck - how cool is that?!

Until next time, pals.

From,
Eleanor
