MAC x Star Trek - Trip The Light Fantastic Powder

MAC have been knocking out some pretty interesting collections recently - from the sizzling bronze/peach hues of Tribe Vibe, to the not-so-hot brights of the Trolls range. But none have struck a chord with me more than the Star Trek line. I'll put this out there now, I've never seen Star Trek, but the collection celebrating their 50th anniversary seems to have something for everyone: whether you're looking for die hard bedazzlement with the pressed pigments or lip gloss, or the simplicity of black liner. Being the broke teen I am, I only bought one piece from the collection. I chose what seemed to be the centrepiece: a Trip the Light Fantastic Powder. Here are my thoughts (:

Firstly, I really like the packaging. The sleek matte black case and simple shiny logo definitely didn't deter the one person who knows nothing about these films (i.e. me). More beautiful though is what's inside. I bought Highly Illogical. Described by MAC as a golden plum, the product is is a gorgeous marbled mixture of deep bronze, dusty rose and gold shimmer. For me, it was love at first sight. The colour and glitter makes it a perfect multi-use product; it can be used as a blush and highlight, plus the bronze-y swirls make it a quick and easy bronzer for paler skin tones.

The way I've been applying Highly Illogical is by swirling a blush brush all around the product and swiping it across the apples of my cheeks. It isn't greatly pigmented, although it's definitely buildable. If you're looking for a more pigmented powder, I've heard Strange New World has the most colour payoff. Highly Illogical gives a stunning bronze flush to the cheeks with a golden sheen that glistens beautifully under the light. It blends really easily and lasts a decent amount of time. I wore it on a particularly sweaty day yesterday and it did melt off within 5 hours, so maybe not the best choice for a staple summer bronzer. Subtle but super duper pretty; love it love it love it.

This is an ideal product if you can stretch to the £26.50 price tag. Not Tom Ford-esque prices of course, but a little hefty for MAC's prices, especially when you look at the costs of the Minzeralize Skinfinishes or general blushes. And obviously this is part of a limited edition collection, so if you want it, or just can't get enough of it, I'd stock up quickly before it - quite literally - flies off the shelves. So watch this SPACE (haha...pls appreciate my puns they don't come around often).

So, if you're not able to tell just yet, this has very much weaved its way into my everyday makeup routine, and I look forward to many more happy days together.

From,
Eleanor
